Talking type explores the various forms type can come in (fonts). The book is made up of 104 different typefaces found on a walk through Hyde Park in Tampa, FL. After photographing 104 eye-catching letters, I began to experiment with the way the shapes interacted with each other and the negative space of the page. I composed the cover sleeve and 26 navigation pages using these images to tell the story of typography.

process

Talking Type was a massive project packed into about 2 months. To begin, I went out and photographed 104 fonts that caught my eye from various packages, signs, posters, and other printed materials. Then, I organized them from A-Z and identified and analyzed each typeface. Once the boring part was over, I started designing each letter's navigation tab using the photos I had taken. Throughout the book, the letters progressively turn from a greyscale to opaque shades of blue. Every letter was colorized, photoshopped, and then composed into the page. Finally, I designed the cover using all 104 photographs.
